Defend Life Announces
"Face the Truth" Tour
Defend Life
of Baltimore has scheduled its annual “Face the Truth Tour”
for June 20 – 24 with stops in Virginia, Maryland, and D.C. At each
location participants stand at busy intersections with large signs of
developing and aborted babies at various ages. The tour’s purpose
is to educate the public on the reality of abortion. While some critics
oppose graphic images, Defend Life testifies to their effectiveness and
remind us that social reform movements throughout history used images
to fight injustice. Those fighting the slave trade showed pictures of
slave ships; those working to reform child labor laws showed pictures
of children factories and mines; civil rights activists showed brutality
against Blacks. The Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C. is a particularly
appropriate stop on the tour (June 21 from 4-6 p.m) to witness against
a modern holocaust that targets the weakest members of society.
Tour activities
are protected by the First Amendment. The Supreme Court says free speech
often achieves its purpose precisely when it is upsetting to people (see
Cohen v. California, 403 U.S. 15, 21 (1971). Courts throughout the nation
have upheld the rights of pro-life people to show these disturbing images.
(See U.S. District Court, W. District of Michigan, cases 02-73058 and
4:0l-CV-172.) They call our culture to repent. Defend Life seeks a “core
team” and volunteers for each stop. Get more information at www.defendlife.org
or contact Tour Director Nancy Bradford: facethetruth@defendlife.org,

and minds.
